What is traumatic arthritis?

Arthritis that usually occur after an injury or a physical trauma is referred to as traumatic arthritis. One of the major causes for traumatic arthritis is sports activities. Sports activities that seek excessive movement causes physical traumas resulting in arthritis conditions. A traumatic arthritis will show the symptoms similar to that of other forms of arthritis.

The doctor will also check the medical history of the patient. The doctor may suggest X-ray, blood test, MRI and CT. The doctor will check for the severity and cause of the condition.

How is traumatic arthritis treated?

Wide range of treatment options is available for treating traumatic arthritis. Some of them include:

  • Corticosteroid injections

  • Medications

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs and

  • Surgery

However, these treatments are not meant to cure the condition. The main objective of the treatments is to strengthen the muscles that surrounds the joint. The doctor may suggest the patient to control weight. Surgery is prescribed when all the non-surgical treatment options fail to achieve the result.
