Liposuction for Chin, Cheeks and Jowls

Liposuction for chin, cheeks and jowls is collectively termed as Facial Liposuction or submentum liposuction. The procedure improves the facial appearance by removing the unwanted fat from the chin, cheek and jowls. It is one of the best solutions for cosmetic problems such as double chin, turkey neck etc. Facial liposuction has not much difference from other body liposuction procedures. Comparatively, it removes a smaller amount of fat. To restore the facial harmony, a chin augmentation with implants may also be done with facial liposuction procedure.

The ideal candidate:

People who want to remove the extra fat from the face and enhance their facial appearance can be the candidate for facial liposuction. But, it is important that the overall health of the individual should be good enough. People with realistic expectations about the procedure and results can only be a good candidate. To get a fair idea about the procedure and results, it is important to have a detailed discussion with the patient. If the individual is planning for a weight loss, it is better to postpone the liposuction procedure. Weight loss may otherwise affect the appearance.

Before the Procedure:

Choose a right surgeon who is certified as well as experience in this regime. It can maximize the results of the procedure. Discuss what you can expect before, during and after the procedure with the surgeon. Surf on the Internet, where you can get more information about the procedure.

During the Procedure:

The patient will be given a local anesthesia plus light sedation. A general anesthesia will be given if the patient is undergoing for another facial procedure combined with facial liposuction. The procedure facial liposuction takes around 1 hour to perform. After giving anesthesia, the surgeon will then make an incision beneath the chin, in the angle of the lower jaw, or between the bottom of the inner lip and the gums. A thin tube called cannula will be inserted through the incision. In order to break up the fat, the cannula is moved back and forth. After sucking out the fat, the cannula is removed and the incision will be closed.

This can be expected in a traditional liposuction procedure. The latest procedure such as ultrasound-assisted liposuction, power-assisted liposuction, laser-assisted liposuction and water-assisted liposuction are different from the traditional liposuction procedure.
