Lipoabdominoplasty

In recent years, a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty procedure, has become a popular cosmetic procedure world-wide. This surgical procedure involves removal of excess skin and fat from the tummy region along with the tightening of abdominal muscles. Excess fat is removed in liposuction procedure through suctioning or vacuuming.

An advanced technology, called Lipoabdominoplasty has brought significant changes to the traditional tummy tuck procedure. In this procedure, the extensive suction assisted lipectomy is safely combined with many of the principles of a Traditional or Classic Abdominoplasty. This helps to achieve far superior results which could not have been obtained by either method alone. It has been considered as an effective procedure to treat hard-to-remove belly fat. Women after childbearing who have weak abdominal muscles and excessive fat, which fails to respond to diet or exercise, are the usual candidates for this procedure. A large and protruding abdomen, In both men and women, can be easily reduced with this procedure.

Liposuction of the entire abdomen is the first step in the lipoabdominoplasty procedure. In this procedure, similar to a classic abdominoplasty, the skin beneath the umbilicus is removed while the lymphatic vessel is kept preserved. This promotes faster recovery after surgery and minimizes post-operative complications. The second step involves limited impairment of the upper abdominal skin flap. This preserves many nerves and blood vessels to the abdominal wall, from getting damaged or injured. Multiple layers of dissolvable sutures are used to close the advanced upper abdominal flap. It helps to reduce post-operative scar tension and spreading. Often lipoabdominoplasty is done in association with liposuction of back, hips and extremities. This combination is an ideal cosmetic surgery solution for those patients with massive weight reduction, pregnancy, or aging.

As compared to traditional tummy tuck, very low complications are involved in mini tummy tuck (lipoabdominoplasty). The procedure aims to prevent the undesirable complications of the traditional abdominoplasty by preserving abdominal lymphatic vessels, nerves, veins and arteries. The known risks include: seroma, necrosis, scar alterations and hematoma. A better blood supply and lymphatic drainage to the viability, results from this anatomical preservation. Excellent results with a fast recovery is achieved.

A significant increase in perfusion-related complication rates, like in traditional abdominoplasty, does not promote lipoabdominoplasty. However, in this procedure, some potential damage to the vascularity of the elevated abdominoplasty flap is involved. Under specific conditions, some complications such as temporary swelling, bleeding, poor healing, scarring, infection, blood clots or lumpy skin. Based on the severity of the case and hospital facilities, there may be some variations in the cost of Lipoabdominoplasty procedure.
