Breast surgery

Breast surgery refers to different types of surgical procedures that are performed on the breast. Some of the prominent types of breast surgery include:

  • Breast reduction surgery: Breast reduction surgery refers to reducing the size of the breasts. If you have abnormally or excessively large breasts that are causing neck pain, back pain, or any other physical symptoms, then you may be need to opt for breast reduction surgery. Men who are suffering from certain conditions such as Gynecomastia (abnormally enlarged male breasts) may also go for breast reduction.

  • Augmentation Mammoplasty: Breast augmentation surgery, also called Augmentation Mammaplasty, refers to the surgical placement of breast implants to enhance the fullness of the breasts, to improve breast symmetry, or to restore the volume of the breasts lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.

  • Mastectomy: Mastectomy refers to surgical removal of one or both breasts, either partially or entirely. This procedure is generally performed to treat breast cancer.

  • Lumpectomy: Lumpectomy is a surgical procedure which is often recommended when a person is diagnosed with breast cancer or lump in the breast. The lump in the breast may be removed along with the surrounding tissue. This procedure also helps to remove Fibroadenoma or other noncancerous tumors of the breast.

  • Breast-conserving surgery: Breast-conserving surgery helps to remove the breast cancer. Different types of breast-conserving surgery include lumpectomy (surgical removal of the lump in the breast), Quadrantectomy (surgical removal of a quarter or quadrant of the breast) and Segmental mastectomy (surgical removal of the breast cancer as well as some of the breast tissue surrounding the tumor and the lining over the chest muscles beneath the tumor).

  • Mastopexy, or breast lift surgery: Mastopexy is surgical procedure used for correcting the position of the breasts and accentuating the firmness without enhancing or reducing the size of the breasts. It is a procedure essentially designed for improving the appearance of sagging breasts.
